MGA Thermal's thermal energy storage technology is offering heavy industry a new alternative to fossil fuelled heat. Delivering reliable, low cost, around the clock renewable heat, MGA Thermal helps manufacturers cut emissions and reduce energy costs, while addressing one of the toughest challenges in the global transition to net zero. Host Jamie Durie takes viewers inside the technology and the impact it’s set to have on industry.
In April 2025, MGA Thermal commissioned a first-of-a-kind commercial Electro-Thermal Energy Storage (ETES) system at its Tomago facility in Australia. This project received $3.75 million from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA). The 5 MWh Demonstration Plant was a key milestone in the commercialisation of MGA Thermal’s next-generation technology, proving that renewable energy can be stored using our proprietary MGA Bocks and dispatched as high-grade process heat - reliably, affordably, and at scale. This technical proof point validates the performance of our technology to de-risk client projects.
At MGA Thermal, our people are our most important asset in our journey to making 24/7 renewables a reality. We're expanding our team and looking for passionate individuals to join us! Our team is dedicated to helping each other be the best we can be, and we're proud to be part of a community that supports growth and development. “I haven't worked somewhere before that's as interested in the opinion of our most junior person as they are in the opinion of the executive,” says Anna Starett, our CFO. “I'm extraordinarily proud to work here and to be part of what we're building.” If you're looking for a place where your ideas matter and you can make a real impact, MGA Thermal is the place for you.

MGA Thermal Blocks can store large amounts of energy as heat, but where does the energy come from and how can it be used? The second video in our three-week series, answers just this! MGA Blocks can charge with energy from solar PV, a power purchase agreement, concentrated solar power, wind turbines, and industrial heat. The energy can then be discharged as heat for industrial processes, or as electricity to power the grid and industrial infrastructure 24/7. MGA Blocks are used in Thermal Energy Storage Systems (TESS) which deliver continuous high temperature heat or electricity that is safe, low cost, sustainable and high capacity.
